As Promised

Ok so I haven’t been too good with the blogging or the keeping in touch with everyone back home in the states thing…so here is the latest (and hopefully most long lasting attempt). This blog is for those who want to keep up with all of my various goings on in the Holy Land while I start Year 1 of Rabbinical School. Do those words warrant capitalizing in the world of grammar? Probably not. Do they warrant capitalizing in the world of Ari? Oh lord yes; the realization of the magnitude of those words is just now beginning to hit me, and the struggle between Rabbi Ari and stam* Ari is brewing.

Anyway, let’s see what we can briefly recap of the last 6 weeks. Ulpan, ulpan, yet more ulpan, trips to the Negev, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Caeserea, the Jerusalem Mountains, a biblical archaeology class taught in a vacuum that would have definitely benefited from more field trips and less classtime (not to mention a teacher who resembled Judge Reinold so much it was uncanny), and a 6 week class on cantillation of the Torah.

Right now, we’re on break for the week until actual classes start. Those are the tachlis* rabbi classes. Actually, those classes don’t start for another week after next, as this coming week will focus on Rosh Hashanah and the Days of Atonement leading to Yom Kippur. So it’s fitting that I try to recharge my blogging around this time of year; new year, whole new Ari, (or whole new Ari attempt at writing).

So here’s me, sitting at Aroma in the Mamilla Mall, a 7 minute walk from my apartment at around 12:50pm on Wednesday kickstarting the blog thing. There will be posts of all kinds here: funny, profound, moving, sad, random, silly and probably often times boring and uneventful, (to me at least, to you the reader, endlessly entertaining by default of the fact that I am experiencing all of this in another country).

Stick around, it’s gonna be interesting.

Until tomorrow, (or later today as my computer’s about to die)

Ari
